The Historic Chinese American Cemetery of San Jose
The historic Chinese American Cemetery of San Jose is located on Curtner Avenue, adjacent to the Oak Hill Cemetery. It is on a small plot of land, 140 feet by 160 feet, with an altar and a burner for traditional paper offerings.
South Bay Historic Chinese American Cemetery Corporation
Since its inception, this historic cemetery has been cared for by members of the Chinese American community. However, because the community is now scattered throughout the county, some felt that a more formal structure was needed to preserve the cemetery and its historic significance. Accordingly, in 1980, the South Bay Historic Chinese American Cemetery Corporation was established as a non-profit corporation under the laws of the State of California
The duties of the corporation are to keep up the appearance of the cemetery, maintain the existing structures, add only those improvements which will not detract from the historic value of the cemetery, educate the community at large concerning the historic significance of the cemetery, and do other appropriate activities.
The corporation is governed by a Board of Directors, with the help of several officers. Anyone agreeing with the goals of the corporation may apply for membership. Donations to the corporation are tax-deductible. For more information, please write to:
